Update on little, precious Victor!
Yesterday morning Victor had his severe cleft lip repaired by Dr Pablo Salamea Molina at Hospital Del Rio in Cuenca.
Victor's mother was nervous and excited that her little guy would receive the surgery that would allow her son to live a normal life without having a misshapen lip or having difficulty speaking normally.
As he always does, Dr Pablo waived his surgical fees and Hospital Del Rio will give HKIE and significant discount.

Four month old Belen and her family live in La Libertad (Salinas) on the coast.
Belen was born with hydrocephaly and recently had the required surgery to prevent her from suffering any brain damage. The surgery was performed at the Roberto Gilbert Children's Hospital in Guayaquil
She also needed a hernia surgery and HKIE was asked by sister Veronica to sponsor this procedure. And of course, we were happy to do so.

Isn't Victor adorable?
This is Juana and her son Victor. Gladys, a friend of Doug and Pam Gould, brought Victor to the attention of HKIE. As you can see, Victor has a severe cleft lip. Luckily for Victor, he is in the good hands of Dr Pablo and Hospital Del Rio.
Juana met us at Hospital Del Rio this past Thursday so Dr. Pablo Salamea Molina could examine Victor. Dr. Pablo will do the surgery on 1/25.

LittleThalia had her cleft palate surgery today. She will not grow up having difficulty speaking or chewing her food.
Dr Pablo Javier Salamea Molina will perform the surgery at Hospital Del Rio in Cuenca.
As he always does, Dr Pablo will waive his surgical fees and Hospital Del Rio will give HKIE a significant discount!

Update from HKIE...Jhander

Yesterday we delivered an oxygen concentrator to Jhander, This portable breathing device will allow Jhander to walk around instead of being tethered to the much bigger tank.
We want to thank Deb Mellentine for suggesting we look for this type of mobile breathing device and to Tom Larson for locating it and Chuck and Nancy Watson for selling the device to HKIE and then making a generous donation.
Jhander and his mother were all smiles and tears as we showed him how to use the breathing device. He will continue using the large oxygen tank at night until his Jan 17 doctor appointment, but at least the trips to refill the large O2 tank will now be once or twice a week rather than daily.
HKIE is continuing our support for food, medicine and transportation while he and his mother remain in Cuenca.
The story of Jhander continues along with his miraculous recovery!
