This is Belen a two week old from La Liberdad (outside of Salinas). She was diagnosed with hydrocephaly (water on the brain) while still in the womb.
Mom contacted Luis Galarza ....one of HKIE's board members. He in turn contacted Sister Veronica from Palmar. Arrangements were immediately made with Roberto Gilbert Hospital in Guayaquil to have the surgery as soon as possible after birth.
Thanks to the quick coordination between all those involved, Belen had her surg...ery last week at the age of 2 weeks, thus preventing any possibility of brain damage!
