This is Mikel, an 18th month old spirited little boy. He had his left eye removed 7 months ago as a result of neuroblastoma. He was diagnosed in January of this year and underwent 5 months of chemotherapy.
Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Juan Jose Diaz, Hospital Del Rio, and HKIE he will receive his prosthetic eye within the next few weeks. As usual...Dr. Diaz (pictured here) is donating his services to HKIE and the Hospital, thanks to Dr. Pablo Javier Salamea Molina and Dr. Luis Alberto Percy (Medical Director} is again giving us a much appreciated discount.
Mikel's mother, pictured with Dr Diaz, asked us if we would meet her at the hospital on the day of the surgery. She can't believe that the surgery will be performed by Dr Diaz at Hospital Del Rio at no cost to her. We always meet the families at the admissions office on the day of the surgeries to reassure and comfort them.
What a wonderful Christmas gift for him and his family!
