This is Ailyn, a 17 month old little girl (also pictured with mom, Maria and
Dr.Juan Jose Diaz of Hospital Del Rio.)
Ailyn was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye) at 4 months and at 7 months the doctors removed her left eye. She began 9 months of chemotherapy and radiation! Thankfully she is now cancer free.
Unfortunately, her mother could not afford any corrective or implant surgery after the illness. Dr Pablo Javier Salamea Molina scheduled an appointment for today with Dr Juan Jose Diaz, an eye surgeon at Hospital Del
Del Rio.
After speaking with Dr Pablo and learning about HKIE, Dr Juan Jose will do the surgery at no charge..HKIE will pay for the hospital costs and the prosthetic eye..
Following some follow up tests this coming week, the doctors will perform the surgery to give this beautiful little girl a matching prosthetic eye.
Maria, Ailyn mother ,is amazed how quickly she was able to get an appointment at Hospital Del Rio and is beyond graterful that Ailyn will soon have her surgery.
