HKIE Child #272

This is Xavier, a delightful 10 year old who had been told he was going to be blind. His family moved into Cuenca proper so he could begin learning braille.
HKIE took him to an eye specialist who determined he has many eye problems ( severe astigmatism and color blindness and a genetic retinal disorder causing night blindness).
HKIE previously provided him with an eye surgery in hopes his eyesight would stop deteriorating. We happy to report the surgeon is optimistic he will not lose his eyesight. You can imagine the smiles on Xavier's, and his mom's and brother's faces when they heard this news!
HKIE purchased a new pair of lenses for Xavier and he can see perfectly! This new miracle is made possible by our loyal HKIE supporters!

This is Belen, a year and a half old little one from the coast. Over a year ago HKIE provided hydrocephalus (water on the brain) surgery for her.
This last month we were informed she had a hernia, but that the surgery could be more dangerous than normal due to a weak heart. Fortunately, thanks to Sr Veronica from the Palmar Clinic, she was admitted to a hospital in Guayaquil where she had her hernia successfully repaired with no ill effects.
Her parents are grateful to all the HKIE supporters who made both surgeries possible.

This is 15 year old Brianna. She lost her leg several years ago to cancer. Unfortunately her leg was not correctly prepared for a prosthesis, so Brianna was forced to use crutches or a wheelchair.
Thanks to our HKIE supporters and a generous discount from Hospital Metropolitano in Quito, Brianna's leg has been surgically repaired and she will now be able to receive a prosthetic leg and will be able to walk on her own in no time!
