Update on Daniel,
Daniel had a successful heart catheterization in Quito yesterday and he and his mom (Silvy) will return to Cuenca tomorrow.
Dr. Davalos told Silvy that Daniel will need another heart surgery but it can wait until his school break in July.
We have reassured Silvy that HKIE and our supporters will again be there for them and not to worry about the cost of the July surgery.

Yesterday little 4 month old Marcelino, from Loja, got a wonderful gift! Dr. Pablo Javier Salamea Molina repaired his cleft lip giving him an opportunity to live a normal life.

As always, the parents were very grateful to Dr Pablo, HKIE, Hospital Del Rio and all of our supporters for making this life changing surgery happen.
Marcelino was brought to the attention of Dr. Pablo by Karina, the former Queen of Azogues. Thanks Karina for continuing your good work!
​A few months from now no one will be able to tell Marcelino was born with a cleft lip! Thank you Dr Pablo!

This is 15 year old Luis and his mother Rosa. Also shown is Dr.Giuseppe Miotto and staff of Exilaser in Cuenca.

Luis had a retinal transplant recently in Quito to save the vision in one eye due to a birth defect. The family was afraid his body was rejecting the transplant and sought out the help of Exilaser. HKIE, working together with Dr. Miotto are providing his after surgery care and medicine to prevent any rejection or problems.

​Additionally, Exilaser has agreed to work with HKIE on a discount basis in providing vision care to any HKIE kids. Thank you, Dr. Miotto and the staff at Exilaser!

This is Amalia with our go to pediatrician at Hospital Del Rio, Dr, Niera.

Amalia attends CETAP Lucy school and was brought to the attention of HKIE by Rocio Illescas.Amalia has suffered for 8 months with a cough that oftentimes keeps her home from school.
After a thorough examination. Dr. Niera is of the opinion that Amalia suffers from asthma. She will use an inhaler for five days and then return to the doctor for a reevaluation. Hopefully this medicine will do the trick and help this charming 7 year old.
