UPDATE ON OUR CHILD 271! OVER 300 CHILDREN HELPED SINCE THEN
belen when she had the hernia surgery
what a cutie! belén 5 years old in front of the hospital where she had the surgery.
Belen is from the coastal area of Ecuador. 5 years ago we sponsored a hernia surgery. She also suffered from Hydrocephalus.
As a follow up from the Hydrocephalus HKIE has sponsored an MRI so the doctors can evaluate her development.
As you can see in the pictures she has come a long way growing fast and well. Let´s wait for the results from her exam.

Update on jazmin our child 628

This amazing beauty has had two sessions now with the amazing Dra. Paola Jaramillo at Hospital del Rio in Cuenca, one of our allies.
Dra. Jaramillo has been assessing her and prescribing proper supplementation to her diet. She has gained three pounds and grown an inch already!
She's going to be a short-term patient, and is doing just fantastic!
Thank you, Dra. Jaramillo and our generous sponsors.!
brian after his tumor removal surgery
update on our 554 child

He is excited to recover and go to medical school so he can return the favor and save someone else's life as his life was saved.
What an incredible feat by our amazing volunteer HKIE doctors, Dr. Diego Maldonado, Dra. Andrea Astudillo, Dr. Santiago Reinoso, Dr. Aurelio Maldonado, Dr. Juan Carlos Salamea, and Dr. Enrique Viteri .
Thank you HKIE donors, from the bottom of our hearts. This child is alive directly because of you.
To quote one of the doctors involved in Brian's case: " WE WIN , TUMOR LOSES!
This is Brian and his mom Elizabeth checking out of Hospital del Rio after 10 scary days. The doctors have given him a clean bill of health...so now on to his studies for the university.
Brian and his family want to thank HKIE and all those who prayed and sent their best wishes.
HKIE wants to again thank Hospital del Rio and the fabulous team of doctors and nurses were with him all these days as they performed 2 very difficult surgeries that saved his life!
And a special thanks to our Medical Director, Dr. Pablo Salamea for putting this great team together!
To our loyal donors that have supported us over they years, we say thank you for being a huge part in this fight to save Brian's life
This little cutie has been thriving since she has been under the care of Dra. Jaramillo, Infant and Children's Nutrionist at Hospital del Rio. She didn't used to register on the height and weight chart for her age. Now she's in the 10th percentile! To get an idea of how little she is, her sister is holding her in the photo. She's eight years old and Marcelita is nine years old. Next up for her is a treatment that is expected to uncurl her hands, arms, legs and feet. After that success, she'll be able to start physical therapy for the first time. Before meeting HKIE and Dra. Jaramillo, her family really didn't have any hope for life every improving. Now they all smile and feel very hopeful. If you wish to help children in Ecuador you can contact us. |

UPDATE FROM OUR CHILD 549 : DANNA

When we first started with Danna, she was asleep the whole appointment.
She was two, but smaller than a one year old.
She was overmedicated for epilepsy, anemic, and had some severe food allergies.
She had almost no muscle tone and couldn't sit up or roll over.
Today was a milestone!
Danna charted as a regular sized two year old for both height and weight.
So much hard work by her parents and the loving attention of Dra. Paola Jaramillo
at Hospital del Rioour allies.
She attends physical therapy and is making such amazing progress.
Such a privilege to watch her progress.
Here is a picture of our Cuenca Ambassador Jennifer Cory with Danna.
A HUGE THANKS TO OUR DONORS!
